Benjamin Murray, MA
Benjamin (Ben) Murray is a clinical trainee who provides psychotherapy to children, adults, and couples using a whole-person, integrated approach that considers every aspect of a person’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. While his clinical expertise lies in the treatment of substance use and co-occurring disorders, Ben is equally passionate about working with children and supporting their emotional development from an early age.
Ben has a particular interest in early childhood mental health and is trained to provide DC:0–5™ diagnostic assessments for children ages 0–5. He uses play therapy techniques to help young clients express themselves and process emotions in age-appropriate, supportive ways. Whether working with children, families, or adults in recovery, Ben tailors his therapeutic approach to meet the unique needs of each client.
Ben draws from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He helps clients identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, while also learning to accept thoughts and emotions without judgment. This dual focus allows clients to move toward healthier behaviors and choices that align with their values and authentic selves.
Ben earned his master’s degree from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School in 2025, specializing in substance use and co-occurring disorders as he pursues licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). He has several years of experience working across the full continuum of care—from inpatient to intensive outpatient programs—at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. He is knowledgeable about a variety of recovery pathways, including AA, NA, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, Quest 180, Refuge Recovery, and the Native American Wellbriety program, and he values helping clients find the recovery path that resonates most with them.
Outside of his clinical work, Ben cherishes time with his daughter during their beloved “Daddyventure Days,” filled with special kid-themed adventures to continually build and enjoy their relationship. Together, they also enjoy raising exotic animals like albino turtles, bearded dragons, and salamanders. Ben is an avid disc golfer, nature lover, and a budding woodworking enthusiast.
