Amber Johnson, MA

McKenzie Minnesota therapist

Amber Johnson, MA, completed the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2023.

Amber provides therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Amber often finds it helpful to involve clients’ family members in the therapy process when possible. In her work with children, Amber values caregivers as experts on their children. Amber’s work is trauma-informed and client-led. Depending on individual client needs, Amber uses a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, narrative therapy, and Child-Centered Play Therapy to allow the client to tell their story in whatever way works best for them, and to encourage the growth of healthy attachment relationships.

Amber has special interests in working with neurodivergent clients (autism, ADHD, language disorders, intellectual disability, etc), with clients who have experienced religious trauma, faith transitions, or mixed-faith relationships, and with clients who have experienced marginalization or harmful othering of any kind.

Amber provides in-person therapy out of the Northfield office as well as telehealth.
