Jeffrey Helms, LPC

Jeff is a Clinical Trainee and a Licensed Professional Counselor who enjoys working with adults 18 years and older.  He received his Masters Degrees in Counseling Psychology and Gerontology from Bethel University, St. Paul, MN. Jeff is also a Certified Professional Gerontologist who specializes in working with older adults.

Jeff works from a perspective that is person-centered showing unconditional positive regard and non-judgement for building a therapeutic relationship with a client.  He uses a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach with clients utilizing coping skills in emotional regulation for managing mood while creating empowerment and greater resilience. In addition, he encourages greater positivity in thinking and development of a greater self-concept. Jeff also utilizes elements of Mindfulness and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as integration of Christian or spirituality elements, when desired. Jeff’s clinical interests include anxiety and depressive disorders, panic, trauma, relationship concerns unresolved grief, and aging issues.

When not at work at Secure Base Counseling Center, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys, extended family, and friends.  He also enjoys bowling, playing golf, music and singing in the choir, going up North or to the lake, and attending cultural arts and sporting events.
