Julie Barris
Julie is a clinical intern at Secure Base Counseling Center, currently pursuing her masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of the Cumberlands. What sets Julie apart as a therapist is her ability to create a warm, supportive environment where clients feel heard, accepted, and empowered. She believes healing happens in therapeutic relationships, and she approaches each client with deep empathy, respect, and a belief in their capacity for change.
She has experience working with clients struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder, and has facilitated DBT groups focused on building skills like emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Julie tailors her approach to each client’s unique needs, drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage overwhelming emotions, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) to explore and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, and Person-Centered and Existential therapies to foster deeper self-awareness, personal meaning, and growth.
Julie’s work is guided by the belief that every person already holds the potential for healing, and therapy is a space to uncover that potential with care and collaboration. Clients can expect a therapeutic relationship grounded in compassion, honesty, and encouragement. Outside of her clinical work, Julie enjoys spending quality time with her husband and son, embracing the beauty of life’s simple moments.
