Laide Mustapha

Laide Mustapha is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern at Secure Base Counseling Center, where she works with individuals and couples. She brings a thoughtful, grounded approach to therapy and values creating a space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

Laide is currently completing her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University, with an expected graduation date of September 2026. She also holds academic training in Criminal Justice and Safety Studies from Minneapolis Community and Technical College, as well as a degree in Political Science from the University of Ado Ekiti in Nigeria.

Laide has over five years of experience working in community-based mental health settings. Her professional background includes work as a mental health practitioner in ARMHS programs and as a case management assistant at a Hennepin County family shelter. These roles have allowed her to support individuals and families facing complex stressors, including housing instability, trauma, and serious mental health concerns.

Her clinical interests include working with anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and related challenges. Laide is especially interested in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Structural Therapy, and she enjoys helping clients better understand patterns in their thoughts, relationships, and daily lives. She works primarily with individuals and couples and approaches her work with curiosity, collaboration, and care.

Laide speaks Yoruba and Pidgin in addition to English, which helps her connect with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Outside of her work as a therapist, Laide enjoys reading, particularly historical novels, and spending time watching movies.
