Mental Health Practioner

A mental health practitioner practices under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional. They may provide an adult client with client education, rehabilitative mental health services, functional assessments, level of care assessments, and treatment plans. They also may provide skill-building services to a child client and complete treatment plans for a child client. A mental health practitioner must not provide treatment supervision to other clinicians. They may provide direction to mental health behavioral aides.

Qualifications

 

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and 2,000 hours of experience providing services
    to individuals with:
    a. a mental illness or a substance use disorder; or
    b. a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability

– OR Has completed a practicum or internship that required direct interaction with adult clients or child
clients, and was focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.

– OR has at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with:
a. a mental illness or a substance use disorder; or
b. a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability

– OR has a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.

– OR Is fluent in a non English language.

 

Responsibilities

Successful candidates must:

  • Willingness to work from an attachment perspective and with a team approach.

  • Work directly with clients in-home, in the community, in schools and in the office. Transport clients in employee owned vehicles and work across environments.

  • Work collaboratively with the therapist and clinical supervisor to create treatment plans for their clients.

  • Write progress notes for each session conducted with a client.

  • Maintains compliance with billing and documentation policy.

  • Maintains own caseload, schedules those clients both in home and in office.

  • Remains compliant with SBCC policies and procedures.

  • Attend mandatory weekly supervision meetings with the Director of Rehabilitative Services.

  • Must receive 30 hours of continuing education every two calendar years and provide documentation to Human Resources for personnel file.

  • Travel is required within a 30 minute radius of the office of your choosing.

Pay

Secure Base Counseling Center pays employees every two weeks. Paychecks include a statement detailing the sessions being paid. Travel reimbursement, if applicable, is paid every two weeks, along with payroll, at 40 cents per minute. Reimbursement for approved expenses will also be paid every two weeks, along with payroll.

 

Freedom to Act

Employee is generally free to organize and prioritize own job duties, as well as assignments to other support staff, and knows where to refer people for assistance or guidance when necessary – or appropriately follows up to acquire a resolution. Employee works independently and with minimum supervision in carrying out necessary tasks. Employee is able to make decisions and answer questions using written resources such as the Employee Handbook, policy and other resources. In the rare event the Clinical Administrator is not available and the need is urgent, direct contact with the Clinical Director may be sought.
